Dearborn School of Music *New Business Member*

SODA welcomes our newest business member

Dearborn School of Music
22031 Outer Drive
Dearborn, MI 48124

The Dearborn School of Music was founded in November, 2012 by David Petrie. Petrie, having over 18 years of teaching experience, noticed that many of the music schools around Detroit operate
within a music store. Disliking the commercial atmosphere, Petrie sought to open the Dearborn School of Music. With his highly qualified staff, Petrie hopes to make the Dearborn School of Music a welcoming and family atmosphere where staff and students can share a love for music and creativity.

With a vision to revitalize a vacant space in the community, they signed on to begin reinventing the former Adray Appliance/Camera space located on Carlysle Street near Outer Drive. The Mighty Oak opened on June 2nd, 2018 to a gracious and welcoming community. SODA would like to welcome our newest business member

Black Box Gallery

Located at 3700 Monroe St; this minimalist, contemporary gallery is a creative re-purposing of an existing space designed to attract artists and audience. Planned exhibits will feature emerging, established, and mid-career artists creating contemporary works on paper, paintings, fine art photography, sculpture and more.

In addition to the art gallery, they will also feature a carry out coffee counter and walk up window. They plan on partnering with a local coffee company for their product, and will have extended hours for coffee service beyond the art gallery hours of operation.

Black Box Gallery Grand Opening
June 22nd, 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The opening exhibit, Contemporary Portraiture, will highlight the works of more than 25 contemporary Dearborn/Detroit artists including Jon Parlangeli whose bold colored works depict playful images with elements of sculpture; Gil Ashby, College for Creative Studies teacher, artist and former Chair of Illustration; and Paula Zammit, whose figurative paintings produce an aura of mysterious sensual femininity lost in modern media.
